
Right, here's the process- take a rough sketch and import it into a computer using a scanner. Shade beforehand if necessary and ensure that all the lines are drawn thick and dark so that the scanner can pick up the details of the sketch.

Image to the RightUsing the paint fill tool colour the sections of design such as hair, skin and clothing using different colours on the pallette. Add shading and highlight effects by using off-colours for the main section,
for example on the hair I used a white brush effect and then used a tool called liquify to give the spike effect. For the clothing I used a darker grey to highlight folds in the material.

I kept this image very similar to the original scan, only incorporating a 'hair effect' brush tool. I used a darker brush for the hair around the ears to show a variation in hair colour. Using the highlight tool I added a lighting effect on the hair to show where the light would reflect off the character's head.
The images were produced using a pencil, a marker pen and the Photoshop design package.
